She Found It In

She had a first class ticket

She found it in the gutter

She heard there was a place on earth

Was unlike any other

She had old conversations

She wrote them in a book

From time to time she’d rewind

The old words that she spoke

She had one place she wanted to be

Gave up on love at age twenty three

A big white sign she got off the train

Nobody saw her ever again

  1. I don’t know why, perhaps it’s my sense of drama, but I find the ending chilling in its uncertainty. I read too many James Elroy novels, I think. But the 50 word format allows you to do that and you’ve done it so well in ‘She Found it In’.
