The Most

There was a girl on the subway, with big glassy eyes and red hair. You could see she had been crying, her eyes were red and puffy, their sadness magnified by the glasses that turned her eyes into big blue orbs. She was wearing headphones, but she saw me looking in her direction a time or two. She had on old converse sneakers and a big scar down her chin, and she’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen all day. I don’t know why, she wore plain blue jeans and a pink floral top, readjusting every so often and covering her midsection with her hands. I wish I would have told her, before she got off the train. I wish I would have told her that. But I was weak and uncomfortable and she had headphones that were big and white and overpowering, and she seemed like she was in the middle of something important. She looked at me too, pulling her coat close to her body and looking even sadder, a hand going up to the scar on her face, the tears welling up again. Maybe she thought I was staring at it, maybe she thought it was ugly. But she was the most beautiful thing I’d seen all day, I wish I would have told her that.

A Short Conversation is a collection of stories, thoughts, and general musing. I like to write like I'm slamming a door; loudly, and with purpose.
